About myself

My name is Chang Zu-Chi, and I go by Alex. I was born in Taiwan and moved to Toronto to study in 2019. I am a travel enthusiast, and  I cycled around Taiwan in grade 10 with my classmates. When I went to Yilan, a rural city on the east coast of Taiwan, I offered to help the elderly living alone, and I  realized that those elderly not only needed help from others but also needed well-designed and eco-friendly residences with the capability to provide them a better and safer living environment.

Mango Radio, an eco-friendly innovation, was designed by Fumikazu Masuda, the designer I held an idle. When purchasing, we directly consider the impact brought to the environment. The thought that came across my brain is that design isn’t all about external appearances, trends, and abstract concepts; it also consists of the attention we pay to environmental issues and the initiative of the design. Mr. Fumikazu introduced the designer’s world to me and further inspired me to fully contribute to the design. 

The purpose of design lies in the techniques and methods we take while tackling problems, rather than the beauty and fashionable appearance. Practical and intuitive designs allow those in need to feel completely inclusive in all environments. If all environmental elements or materials are exploited, pollution may be reduced. My goal is to become a designer who helps the disabled. I sincerely believe that all men are born equal and deserve to live in a safe and friendly environment. As we age, we may eventually become people with special needs; till then, I hope to create inventions that are not only beneficial to me but also helpful to others in need.
